Signs that bring the call

The order a range is checked in
The range is switched on and watched doing the thing you rang about before any panel comes off. From there the checks run from the supply inward.
- Power. A Wolf gas range still needs electricity to light, and Wolf’s own troubleshooting for a range that will not work starts at the home breaker. A dual-fuel oven depends on that supply entirely.
- The burner you called about. For a ragged flame or no ignition, Wolf’s gas range guide lists four checks: the cap positioned properly, the burner and igniter clean, any spill left to dry completely, and the knob springing back after it is pushed in and let go.
- The oven below. Preheat is timed against the indicator light, which stays lit until the oven reaches its setting and then cycles on and off.
- Only then, the part. The module, valve, sensor or board that actually failed is tested and named, with the figure for replacing it.
Where the numbers are
Wolf prints the model and serial numbers on the range’s rating plate and on the registration card packed with it; the features page of the use and care guide shows where the plate sits. For warranty work Wolf also asks for the installation date and the dealer’s name, so find those too if the range is young.
Where your part ends
One breaker reset, a cap put back flat, a spill given time to dry. Wolf’s guide says to shut off the gas and the power before any service and not to replace parts it does not tell owners to replace, so everything behind a panel and every gas fitting belongs to the visit. Oven side heated but broil never came on, so everything browned unevenly. Broil element had failed open. He tested it in front of me, swapped it, then ran a full cycle before packing up.

Flames were yellow and lazy, pans coming off sooty. Manifold pressure was low and one orifice was wrong for our fuel. Blue cones again, no soot since.

Igniter on the left oven glowed but the burner never caught. He replaced the igniter and checked the gas valve rather than assuming. Straight answer on the phone first, which I appreciated.
