- The simmer. A burner that holds a flame only on high is watched at its lowest setting, where a weak flame shows itself.
- Electric zones and touch keys. Each zone is run until it has had time to heat and settle, and every key is pressed in turn, so a single failed zone is told apart from a failing control.

Griddle plate would not hold an even temperature — one end scorched, the other barely browned. A failed thermostat on that section. Replaced, then checked across the plate with a surface probe.
