Igniters, Covers and Trapped Moisture

Wolf’s OG-series grills light each main burner with a hot-surface igniter below the grates, inside its flash tube, that glows when the knob is pushed in. No glow points to the power or to that igniter; a glow with no flame is a gas question, and the spring start-up card covers it. Read only the card that matches.

Before you call

Not one burner shows a glow

  • Press each knob in turn. If no igniter glows, suspect what they share, the grill's one power cord, before any single part.
  • Wolf's checks: the home breaker is on, and the GFCI outlet the grill plugs into has not tripped. Press its reset button.
  • With the hood open, try the interior and knob lights. Wolf gives them the same checks, so dark lights point back to the supply too.
  • An outlet that trips again as soon as it is reset has a fault of its own; leave it off.

Before you call

One igniter stays dark while the rest glow

  • If every other igniter glows, the breaker and the outlet have already passed. The fault belongs to that burner: its igniter, or the wiring behind that knob.
  • The rotisserie burner at the back is lit by a separate igniter on the rear panel, so it can fail while the main row works.
  • Fitting a new igniter or tracing its wiring means panels off, which is where the owner's side ends.

Lighting a burner by hand in a power cut

  • Wolf's guide allows a main burner to be lit by hand when there is no power: hood open, gas on, knob pushed in and turned to HI.
  • Hold a multi-purpose lighter through the grates near the top of the flash tube, keeping your face and body well back.
  • No flame within five seconds: knob to OFF, then a full five minutes before the next try.

Why does my Wolf grill igniter not glow when I push the knob in?

Is a grill cover bad for a Wolf grill's igniters?

Wolf's guide does not blame covers for igniter faults; its rule is that the cover comes off and the hood goes up before any lighting. A cover that stays damp underneath is still worth lifting on dry days. If yours lights only after a dry spell, say so when booking.
